05.22.09 - Kyle Busch Foundation Lil' 600

Earlier today, M&M’S Racing staged the Lil’ 600, a special go-kart race to support the Kyle Busch Foundation in downtown Charlotte as part of the city’s annual Speed Street celebration.  Consumers were able to get behind the wheel for a few hours this morning in lieu of a donation to the foundation, before Kyle hopped in a go-kart to compete against several media personalities and VIPs.

Participants in the Media All-Star Race included Nate Ryan from USA Today, Matt Crossman from Sporting News, sports anchors from CBS and FOX Charlotte and an editor from Charlotte Magazine.   Matt Crossman took the checkered flag in the inaugural Media All-Star Race, as Kyle’s go-kart suffered engine troubles knocking him out.

Kyle was able to capture the checkered flag in the Lil’ 600, beating out VIP participants including Charlotte Mayor Patrick McCrory, JD Gibbs, two Carolina Panthers (Josh McCown and Mike Rucker), John Mercer from Food Lion, Donna Bland from the Carolina Children’s Center that Kyle supports through the foundation and one lucky fan who qualified earlier in the day.  In all honesty, the qualifying fan and JD gave Kyle a run for his money.

Aside from the great action on the track, there was considerable media focus on the event as every affiliate in Charlotte attended the event, several racing focused Web sites, WFNZ-AM and the Charlotte Observer.  Of course, we’ll forward clips along as they become available, but in the meantime, attached please find a few photos from the event.  Thanks!
